Spring Cleaning = More efficient summer
Spring HVAC Tip: Clear Around Your Outdoor Unit for a Cooler, More Efficient Summer
As temperatures start to rise, it’s time to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep your home cool and comfortable. One easy but often overlooked task? Clearing the area around your outdoor AC unit.
Over the fall and winter, it’s common for leaves, twigs, grass, and other debris to accumulate around the condenser unit. If the unit doesn’t have enough space to “breathe,” it can struggle to release heat efficiently—which means your system works harder, your energy bills go up, and the risk of breakdowns increases.
We recommend keeping at least 2–3 feet of clear space on all sides of the unit. Trim back any overgrown shrubs, remove weeds, and clear away any built-up debris. You can even give the unit a gentle spray with the garden hose to remove dirt and pollen from the fins—just be sure to shut the power off first for safety.
A little attention now can help your system run smoother all summer long.
